Brother marks kindness of former enemy
A Coventry kid whose elder brother was killed when his ship was torpedoed in the Second World War is to put up his name on a brass plaque … alongside that of a Commander of a German U-boat.
Tony Jordan, who survived the Blitz in Coventry, was 11 years old when his big brother Ron, a Merchant Navy sailor, was killed aged just 19. He had been on board the oil tanker British Resource when it was torpedoed three times by the U-boat U124 off Cape Hatteras in March, 1942.
Searching for a pet
Once upon a time there were a little boy and girl who wanted to have a pet. Their names were Bert and Susan and they lived with their mum and dad in a cottage by the woods. One day they went into the woods to look for a pet.
‘Let’s split up,’ they said when they got into the woods.
Bert looked around and saw two rabbits and a stray cat. Susan looked around and saw a dog and a…..
‘Wolf!’ the wolf leapt out from the bushes and pounced on Susan. It knocked her over but she punched it in the face. By this time Bert had arrived.
‘What’s going on?’ he asked.
‘This thing tried to kill me!’ she replied pointing to the wolf she had knocked out. ‘I think those rabbits look nicer.’
So they took the rabbits home and named them Patch and Bluebell and they all lived happily ever after.

Space Aliens
Far, far away and a long time ago there was a family of aliens who had to move house to Neptune because they didn’t have any money. The little aliens’ father had to go away to get a better job so they had to look after their mother.
One day a space monster came to Neptune. The aliens were very cross and scared. None of the aliens could speak English, French or Greek, they had to grunt and squeak but they could understand what the monster was saying. He said ‘GRRRRRRRRR!!!’ as loud as he could. ‘I’m going to eat you all up!’ he growled.
Then the smallest alien squeaked
‘You can’t do that; our mummy will phone the police!’
‘She won’t!’ growled the monster.
‘Oh yes she will!’ squeaked the little aliens. ‘Then the policeman will put you in prison!’
‘Oh no he won’t!’ growled the monster and they carried on doing it.
Quite soon the monster got tired of this so he went home.
The aliens lived together for a long time without being troubled by the monster but one day he came to their house with a chainsaw!
‘If I can’t destroy you, then I’ll destroy your house!’ he growled and knocked the whole house down! ‘That will get you!’ he growled.
‘No it won’t!’ squeaked the aliens and phoned the space police.
From then on the aliens lived happily ever after. (Once they had rebuilt the house!)
The Magic Chair
Early one morning Clara woke up. She was too excited to sleep, because this was her 7th birthday. The first thing she saw was a huge parcel. “A birthday present!” she cried and leapt out of bed. When she opened it there was another box and another and the pile of presents was growing and growing. Finally she got to the last box and inside that was a chair just the right size for her. So Clara sat in it and started floating! Clara’s window was open and she floated through. She saw a witch and a ogre and even a talking, flying pig! Then another magical thing happened, the clouds turned into a transparent horse and wherever the chair went, so did the horse. It was like a merry go round that didn’t go round! Soon they came to a jungle. Out from the mists of the jungle like a tiger coming out of a patch of long grass came Clara’s house! “Wow I never knew my house was in a jungle!” Clara said to herself. “You’ve only just moved” said the horse and chair together, “we thought we would take you on a birthday ride” added the horse, Clara just stared at them. When Clara got home, her mother asked Clara where she had been. Clara told her how she flew and about the magical things she had seen. So everyone lived happily ever after and that was the only magical adventure Clara ever had apart from the easter egg that started clucking, and her ball that made your dreams come true if you bounced it, and the watch that was always telling jokes instead of time.
